Obey in Faith

August 12 | Joshua 6:1-2

“Now Jericho was closed up inside and outside because of the sons of Israel. None went out and none came in. And the Lord said to Joshua, “See, I have given Jericho into your hand and its king and mighty men of valor.” (Joshua 6:1–2)

When you read Scripture God calls His people to do some pretty wild things. Most of them don’t make sense in the natural. They are not for natural eyes. They are for His people to rise up in faith and obey Him.

Joshua was one of the most tested leaders of Israel in his faith. But he watched Moses faithfully obey God’s commands for years. He knew what God can do. So God doesn’t ask him to pick up weapons and form an army, but walk around a city.

That’s all God said to do. Once every day for six days and seven times on the seventh day. Can you imagine Joshua and the Israelites being jeered by the Jericho inhabitants as they walked around the city?

And yet Joshua was obedient. His faithful obedience brought a great victory. Without doing anything other than having a moving worship service the Israelites saw God tear down the walls of Jericho.

God will ask you to do some implausible and crazy things as you follow Him. Your mind will tell you they don’t make sense. But if you obey God you will see victory in your life.

Action Step: Have faith in God’s crazy plans. Obey Him and do everything He tells you to do. Listen to His voice. Your obedience will bring victory.

Lord Jesus, I’m going through a great trial and I need Your voice. I will obey You no matter what You tell me to do. I know that Your plans always work. Give me more faith to trust You for greater things.
