I Have Overcome the World

“These things I have said to you so that you may have peace in Me; in this world you will have tribulation, but take courage, I have overcome the world.”” (John 16:33)

When you have the roughest day in the world, you want to know that it’s not all for nothing. The Bible declares you victorious in Christ, an overcomer over temptation and sin. But you don’t always feel it. Sometimes you feel like you’re losing the battle.

Sure, everyone reminds you that Jesus won the war. But that doesn’t make you feel any better. Jesus told the disciples they would soon flee to their houses. He’s probably talking about later that night in Gethsemane. As Jesus is arrested, all the disciples run away.

Jesus wanted to encourage them. It would be the darkest night of His life. He would suffer being alone in the middle of God’s judgment of the world placed on Him. He would not only suffer as the sinless Son of God taking on the sin of the world, but be alone while doing it.

Jesus brings you peace in your despair. He reminds you that even when you don’t feel like an overcomer, He has overcome the world. The tribulation and hardship you face will soon be in the past. Jesus has won the war, and your battles won’t change that.

Action Step: Thank Jesus that He has won every battle and war. You are in overcomer even when you don’t feel it. Rejoice in Jesus’s victory. Walk in victory as a child of God.

King Jesus, thank You for winning the war. I rejoice in Your victory made mine because I’m a child of God. I am facing some tough challenges today. I bring them before You and lay them at Your feet. I know You will make me victorious .
