Honor the King

February 17 | Zechariah 9:9; Matthew 21:9

Daily Bread

“Rejoice abundantly, O daughter of Zion! Shout in triumph, O daughter of Jerusalem! Behold, your King is coming to you, righteous and having salvation is He, humble and mounted on a donkey, indeed on the foal of a donkey!” (Zechariah 9:9)

But the crowd that was preceding Him and following Him cried out saying, “Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest!”” (Matthew 21:9)

Every so often the English monarchs make news across the pond in America. I’m not much for following them, but they know how to make a splash. They draw attention to themselves, whether good or bad.

Jesus knows how to be King. When He entered His city of Jerusalem, He did it with the flare of a King, and humility almost never seen among monarchs. Jesus struck a balance between humility and pride.

He entered the city on a colt, fulfilling prophecy. His disciples knew who He was. They worshiped the King. Hosanna means, “The Lord saves.” Whether they realized it, they were honoring Jesus properly.

For the rest of the week, the religious leaders and many in Jerusalem mistreated Jesus. Here, He receives proper praise. Whether He is riding the lowly colt or hanging on the Cross, He deserves your worship.

Action Step: Worship the Lord with your whole being. Bow the knee to the King of the Universe. He deserves your worship and praise because He is the perfect King. He is humble and sovereign. No matter your situation, show your Lord His worth to you.

Jesus, I bow before You today. I honor You in Your presence. I lift Your name high and glorify You. I talk about You in front of others. I am not afraid to proclaim Your wondrous works and majestic miracles in my life.
