November 10 | Colossians 3:2-4
“Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ who is your life appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.” (Colossians 3:2–4, ESV)
When I was a kid one of my favorite games to play with other kids was Hide and Seek. As I got older we had to make it more challenging. Flashlight tag became another favorite. When you hide from someone you are still there but they cannot see you.
Paul talks about our relationship with Jesus as hidden. Our death with Jesus refers to our salvation. When you watch a person being baptized in water it is an image of dying with Christ, dying to sin, and being raised with Him.
This is what Paul is talking about. But our lives are hidden with Christ. We live with Christ after dying to sin. Hidden things have yet to be revealed. As we live with Christ the world cannot see the eternal life we have in Him. You must wait until Jesus appears in the clouds and calls you home with Him.
But when He appears your eternal life with Him will be seen by all. There is coming a day when Jesus will reveal Himself and when He does your hidden life in Him will also be revealed. This is why you live a different life than those around you now.
Action Step: Set your mind on these spiritual truths, not on the world that is passing away. Don’t think about worldly things.
Jesus, I love the life I have with You. We are hidden together only to be revealed at the proper time. Help me to renew my mind and think on these wonderful truths. I will serve You until You appear to take me home.
