Hezekiah’s Prayer

July 29 | 2 Kings 20:4-6

“And it happened that before Isaiah went out of the middle court, the word of the Lord came to him, saying, “Return and say to Hezekiah, the ruler of My people, ‘Thus says the Lord, the God of David your father: I have heard your petition. I have seen your tears. Behold, I will heal you. On the third day, you will go up to the Lord’s house, and I will add to your days fifteen years, and from the hand of the king of Assyria I will rescue you and this city, and I will defend this city for My own sake and for My servant David’s sake.’”” (2 Kings 20:4–6)

What’s the worst news you’ve ever received? Was it the death of a loved one, financial uncertainty, sickness in the family? In these dark times of our lives we cry out to Jesus because we can’t do anything to change these situations.

King Hezekiah didn’t just get one piece of bad news. Jerusalem was under siege. Isaiah the prophet told Hezekiah he was going to die from his sickness. Nothing was going his way. But King Hezekiah was a righteous king.

And what he may have considered a last ditch effort he prayed to the Lord to heal him. His bed filled with tears. And the Lord heard his cries and sent Isaiah with a miraculous message of hope for him and Jerusalem.

Action Step: In your darkest hour of sickness and pain ask Jesus for healing. Your prayer of faith lays the groundwork for God’s miraculous action. He will do a complete work in you.

Precious Jesus, I cry out to You in my pain and sickness. You are able and willing to heal me. Stretch out Your hand and heal my disease. Do Your complete work in my body and life. I claim Your promises of healing.
