November 23 | Psalm 116:1-2
“I love the Lord, because he has heard my voice and my pleas for mercy. Because he inclined his ear to me, therefore I will call on him as long as I live.” (Psalm 116:1–2, ESV)
I have the ability to distinguish between hearing and listening. Some people call it selective hearing. I can be listening to a person telling me something important. It goes in one ear and out the other without processing it. But when I really listen to a person I pay attention to what they say and carry on a conversation with them.
I’m sure you’re nothing like me. And God isn’t either. He listens to every person on this planet. He listens for the unsaved loved one to cry out to Him, asking for salvation. He hears prayers of desperation. He hears prayers of thanksgiving.
He pays special attention to His children when they pray to Him. The psalmist says he loves the Lord because He listens to him. God hears every word you speak toward Him. He says the Lord “inclines His ear” to his prayers.
God cares what’s on your mind, what you are concerned about, what makes you happy, sad, angry, and afraid. Is intimately involved in your life. And he has your very best at heart. God wants you to succeed in His will for your life. He hears your cries for help and answers them..
Action Step: Cry out to Jesus when you are happy, sad, angry, worried, and afraid. He is your Heavenly Father. He loves you. He is listening to every word.
Abba Father, I bow before you today. I need you more than anything. You see my situation. You know my distress. You know my happiness and joy. Help me in this moment as I seek You. Bless me and lead me in Your way everlasting. Thank You that You listen to me and answer my prayers.
