God’s Powerful Words

March 6 | Acts 2:40-41

Daily Bread

“And with many other words he bore witness and exhorted them, saying, “Be saved from this crooked generation.” So those who accepted his message were immersed and on that day about three thousand souls were added.” (Acts 2:40–41)

We want to see God do powerful miracles around us. We are into the big, flashy miracles, the ones we think display God’s incredible power. They show God’s power. We like them because we think they are showy and undeniable. And that they are.

But God doesn’t have to use powerful signs and wonders. He speaks just as elegantly with words. On the day of Pentecost, God did incredible things as He sent the Spirit. But His most powerful actions gave the Church power to see people come to Jesus through Peter’s sermon, orchestrated by the Holy Spirit.

The results of God’s powerful wind and tongues of fire upon believers were just the start. We like to focus on them, but the Holy Spirit came in power through speech. He spoke through Jesus’s disciples messages in different languages. Then He spoke through Peter to bring people to salvation. We don’t do these things. God does them through us. The victory belongs to Him.

Action Step: Remember that God uses words He speaks through you as much as the powerful signs and wonders He can do through you. Don’t discount the words He speaks to and through you. His voice is more powerful than the miraculous actions He performs.

Powerful Jesus, I know You speak through Your Holy Spirit to me. Help me remember it’s not about the flashy wonders You do, but Your still small voice. I thank You for the miracles, signs, and wonders, and for Your words Your Spirit speaks through me. I’m just glad to be a part of what You’re doing in the world today.
