God’s Powerful Blessing

June 29 | Genesis 35:11-12

“And God said to him, “I alone am God Almighty. Be fruitful and multiply. A nation and a company of nations will come from you, and kings will come from your loins. And the land that I gave to Abraham and Isaac I will give to your offspring after you.” (Genesis 35:11–12)

God continued to bless Abraham’s children. But he didn’t just hand them his blessing and his covenant. He renewed it for each one of them. God deals with each of us on an individual basis. We cannot expect the God of our parents to be our God. We must turn to him on our own.

Once again God reminds Jacob that his name means, “Deceiver.” But then he changes his name to Israel. The angel of the Lord did this during their battle but God reaffirms it here. God called himself, “God Almighty,” referring to his strength and provision for Jacob.

Now that the names of Israel and God have been confirmed, God pours his blessing on Israel. He calls him to be fruitful and multiply, something he commands the beginning relationships from Adam and Eve to Noah, and now to Israel.

When you are obedient to God he will bless you beyond measure. God would bless Israel’s fruitfulness with nations and kings. And he gave him the land he gave to Abraham and Isaac. All Israel had to do was remain faithful to God.

Action Step: Remain faithful to God to see your blessing. Be fruitful and multiply in your character, faith, and deeds to please God.

Lord Jesus, thank you for pouring out your blessings on me. I want to be faithful to you and obey your Holy Spirit as he guides me through your desires for me. Conform me to your image so that I can be like you.
