February 12 | 1 John 4:7-8

“Beloved, let us love one another, because love is from God and all who love have been born of God and know God. The one who does not love does not know God because God is love.” (1 John 4:7–8)
It’s one thing to love family and friends. It’s another thing to unconditionally love everyone. Let’s face it, some people are unlovable. Their personality puts up a barrier hard to cross. We need to see people the way Jesus sees them if we can find a way to love people.
The commandment to love one another first applies to Christians. Then it extends to anyone we meet. Jesus taught us to love unconditionally from the Cross, because we were His enemies.
We know we are God’s children and born of Him because we have learned how to love others. The proof’s in the pudding. If you love others, you are born of God. Yes, we’re talking about being saved. The proof of your salvation is your love for others.
If you don’t love others, you don’t know God. I didn’t say it. God says it. As hard as it is to love others, the Holy Spirit will help you love others unconditionally. After all, the Spirit is God, and God is love.
Action Step: Find the unlovable person in your life and show love for them. Do something that will show your love no matter how hard it is. They probably know you don’t get along with them. This will show how Jesus has changed you.
Holy Spirit, help me to love the unlovable. Give me Your eyes to see their situation and help me find a way to show them the love of Jesus. Thank You that You taught me how to love. Give me Your strength to love others the way You love them.
