Filthy Rags

March 12 | Isaiah 64:6

Daily Bread

And there is no one who calls on Your name, who rouses himself to take hold of You, for You have hidden Your face from us and have made us to melt in the hand of our iniquities.” (Isaiah 64:6)

None of us would come to church or go out in public with filthy clothes. We want to put our best foot forward, show people we are not slobs. Only in the comfort of our home do we dress without a care in the world.

Isaiah decried the wickedness of Israel around Him. He declared that their futile efforts to obtain righteousness by their own means was nothing more than filthy rags. The more they tried to be like God by their own righteousness, the more they failed. The world tells us to make our own way, and like Frank Sinatra sang, “I did it my way.”

The only way to be righteous is through Jesus’s righteousness given to you. Remember when sin ruled you? You thought you were in charge, doing what you wanted, but Scripture tells us sin rules us. We must rule over it,. Only Jesus can help you do that.

Isaiah describes our lives like a fading leaf and sin blowing us away like the wind. On a windy day, you feel like you are floating away. Tornadoes and hurricanes whip through neighborhoods, lifting everything with power. We want Jesus to control us instead of our sin.

Action Step: In everything you do today, seek for Jesus to control you by His Spirit. Surrender your day to Him and walk in obedience to His will.

Jesus, I turn my day over to you, my schedule, my agenda, and all my actions. Let Your righteousness cover me today. I walk in obedience to Your Spirit. Show me the right things to do that honor You.
