Session One: Foundations Formed
In almost every science class (especially biology), students are taught about the origin of humanity through the concept of evolution. Here are the shakers involved in making sure evolution is taught:
Now if you know anything about these groups of people, you know that they are not science fields but philosophy fields. Why do we have philosophers telling us which scientific models to teach?
Not only do we have to decide whether evolution is an actual science or a philosophy, we also need to decide whether evolution is a scientifically proven law or a simple theory. This makes all the difference in the world when we present it. You see, if evolution had the equal status of law with say gravity and was a proven fact, then we could teach it as a law (something we know to be true). But if evolution is a theory, then we cannot prove it, and it is only a possibility for explaining how we got here. But it is not a fact of life, it’s a suggestion.
Definitions and Backgrounds
What is Evolution?
We must distinguish between microevolution and macroevolution.
- Microevolution – change within a species. For instance, frogs grow green spots to hide in grass so they are harder to find.
- Macroevolution – change from species to species. For instance, an ape and a man are closely related, so the man must be an evolved form of the ape.
Evolution is a way to explain how species change so that they can survive in their surroundings. Evolution is a study of the ways living things adapt to make life easier or better, or often to keep their hunters from finding them as quickly so their species can grow and thrive.
Where Did Evolution Come From?
Charles Darwin made up the theory of Evolution in the 1830s. In his book Origin of Species, Darwin actually tells us that he is not sure if his theory is even accurate or possible. The whole theory of Evolution is based on a premonition, a suggestion, not science!
The Theory Proposed
The theory of Evolution is based on some major essential doctrines:
- Common Ancestry – every from of life and every species came from one beginning species.
- Genetic mutation – the parts of systems needed to advance a species developed little by little over time. Each part affected the system, making it better.
- Survival of the fittest – Because better systems are developed, the species that make advances gain strength over less advanced species and become the dominant species.
- Natural selection – some of the species have the natural ability to advance faster than others. This natural ability makes such species the chosen ones in a group of like species. Nature seems to help them along. Those who adapt survive. Those who don’t weren’t naturally selected.
- From simple life to complex life – Life evolved from a few gasses and went from simple, single-celled organisms to complex organisms with multiple cells. This led to even larger, more advanced and evolved systems.
- Chance – Chance helped in producing the proper conditions for life. Outside of time, nature could adapt with certain elements available. It would take a long time for them to develop, so thank chance that the proper elements came together not only to create life, but also advanced life forms.
- Recapitulation – in the womb, the fetus undergoes the evolutionary process again!
- No God in the process or origin
- Survival of the fittest – explains extinction of certain species
- Big Bang offers an explanation of the expanding universe and something from nothing
- Chance explains the way life became complex.
- Common Ancestry shows why some animals and humans appear to look so similar.
Relationship Between Evolution and the Big Bang Theory
Evolution only explains how the world developed. It does not explain the actual beginning of the process. For this, the scientist has suggested that there was a big bang. The theory is that out of nothing something, a combination of gasses ignited a giant surge of exploding power and our universe was born. Evolution picks up the story and explains how this incredibly hot universe cooled and condensed to form planets, stars, and other pieces of matter.
The Big Bang begins the process, but is rather unstable. You cannot get something out of nothing. The law of causality demands a cause for effects. The atheist and the evolutionist have no feasible explanation for this cause of the Big Bang. But in Christianity, God existed outside of time and creation, and was the initiator of the universe. He spoke it into existence.
Edwin Hubble in 1929 discovered that the universe is currently expanding. Taking this model back through history shows that at one time, the universe was more condensed and came from a singularity. This singularity at one point did not exist at all! The universe came from nothing. The only way scientists can explain this is through the Big Bang theory.
Is Evolution a Theory or a Law?
- Laws are provable and reproducible happenings.
- Theories are suggestions about how things work.
Although schools have been teaching Evolution as a law for many years now, it is only a theory. The reason for this is that it takes so long to see a species change into another species that no one has ever been able to produce this in a lab, so it is not a law. Not only is it not reproducible, but it is also not provable. No one has ever found any proof, aside from the resemblance of apes and men, that Darwin’s missing links have been found, or that systems were created over time by chance. Even by not using chance, scientists cannot reproduce this theory.
On top of all of this, other proven and reproducible scientific laws go against the theory of evolution, such as the two laws of thermodynamics. When laws go against other theories, the theories are abandoned, but evolution is still around. The reason for this is that people want to believe it. That is not science; that is religion!Laws are provable and reproducible happenings.
