Everlasting King

December 14 | Luke 1:30-33

“And the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. And the Lord God will give to him the throne of his father David, and he will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of his kingdom there will be no end.”” (Luke 1:30–33, ESV)

Imagine you are going about your ordinary day and the extraordinary happens to you. It knocks you off your guard. You don’t know how to respond or how to take the event. This was how Mary must have felt.

In the midst of her ordinary day the angel Gabriel came to her and pronounced the most amazing announcement in all history. God would do the impossible. A virgin would become a mother. And not just any mother. The mother of the Messiah!

The angel told her she would be the mother of the everlasting King of Israel, and the world. This was no normal King. He was divine, but ruled earthly kingdoms. The King promised in the prophets would be her son.

He is the greatest King ever known. His Kingdom never ends. His name means, “The Lord Saves.” And it was finally time to come on the scene. And this King who sits on the throne of your heart. He rules with love and compassion.
