Earth-Shattering Prayer

March 7 | Acts 4:29-31

Daily Bread

“And now, Lord, take notice of their threats and grant your servants with all boldness to speak your word, as you stretch out your hand to heal, both signs and wonders are happening according to the name of your holy servant Jesus.” Then after they prayed, the place in which they were gathered was shaken, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and they spoke God’s Word with boldness.” (Acts 4:29–31)

James describes powerful faith prayers. Christian actions prove how their belief in the power of prayer. They barely attend church prayer meetings. Christians surveyed admit they pray less than five minutes a day.

Why should God move powerfully when we don’t learn how to pray? When the Acts Church prayed, God gave surprising answers, like setting Peter free from prison. Evil forces that control the world system were coming after them.

That would scare most of us. They prayed fervently for God to do greater things. Their prayers shook the earth. After they prayed, the ground around them was shaken. Why did the ground shake? Some Christians don’t know, or notice it when they read. Satan is the prince of the power of the air. For now, He rules the earth through the world system and leaders who don’t realize His grip on them.

The ground shook because the kingdoms of this earth under Satan’s control shook by God’s power. We need to see more prayers like that in the Church today! God was showing Satan who’s Boss.

Action Step: Ask the Holy Spirit to teach you how to pray powerful prayers. Take time and effort to learn how to pray in ways that shake the nations and show God’s true power.

Holy Spirit, teach me to pray like the early Church. Inhabit and infuse my prayers with Your divine power to strike down the enemy and shake His strongholds on earth. Let it be on earth as it is in heaven.
