Dwelling Richly in You

November 12 | Colossians 3:16-17

“Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God. And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.” (Colossians 3:16–17, ESV)

How do you treat other Christians? I don’t think any of us are hostile toward our brothers and sisters in Christ. But do we do everything we can to encourage and build one another up? As Paul nears the ending of his letter to the Colossians he focuses on how we treat one another.

We are family and we need to encourage one another in Christ. At the heart of our community and relationships is the word of Christ and the Spirit. Paul speaks of the Bible, the foundation for everything we know and understand about God. And that knowledge changes us to love one another.

But what does having God’s Word in our hearts look like? We use wisdom, teaching and encouragement. We are in this together. The world treats us harshly but we are warm and loving toward one another.

The Holy Spirit ministers through us to others in Psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs. Each of these has their place and is a tool to encourage one another. We remind each other of the faith and grace we all share.

Action Step: Step out of your comfort zone and encourage another Christian today. Do it in a creative way that fits you. Concentrate on making everything you do glorify Jesus.

Jesus, teach me to love my brothers and sisters in Christ like You do. I want them to know Your grace and encouragement today. Show me a way to encourage them and build them up.
