Divine Leading

December 18 | Matthew 1:20-21

Daily Bread

“But as He considered these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to Him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, don’t be afraid to take Mary as your wife, for what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit, and she will give birth to a son, and you will call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins.” (Matthew 1:20–21)

In the times you don’t know what to do you can lean on God’s Word. But what if you need to know more? Joseph relied on what he thought was the right thing to do. He was a righteous man. He was good to Mary.

But this was a hard pill to swallow. He almost blew a gasket when his bride to be showed up pregnant. He knew the baby wasn’t His. But he loved Mary. He decided to divorce her quietly so she didn’t suffer the scorn and public disgrace in their culture.

It was the best he could do in this situation. Thank God He guides you in the times you don’t know what to do. Just as Joseph was about to put his plan into action he received divine leading. God can use dreams to guide you. He has many tools at His disposal.

Joseph followed what he knew, but he would make the wrong decision. God told Joseph exactly what to do. The bumpy road ahead needed a righteous father and husband. People would talk. Joseph was God’s man for the job. He will guide you with your bumpy road too.

Action Step: Ask Jesus to guide you and give you the courage and faith you need to plow ahead. He knows your situation and your name.

Jesus, I don’t know what to do. I need Your help. Only You know what to do. I lay this decision at Your feet and ask for your piece.
