Boast in the Cross

April 1 | Galatians 6:14

“But for me, I will not happen to boast, except in the Cross of Our Lord Jesus Christ, by which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world.” (Galatians 6:14)

Boasting requires us to talk about our accomplishments, our abilities, and our works. We let people around us know what we can do and who we are. It falls under the category of pride. If you don’t have “positive” qualities in these areas, you don’t let other people know.

Paul turns this principle on its head. He refuses to boast about His accomplishments and pedigree. Instead, He only boasts in the Cross of Christ. Jesus gave up everything for us. He won His victory on the Cross against Satan and the evil spiritual powers.

We boast in the Cross because of what Jesus has done in us. Through the Cross, Jesus not only one victory over the devil, but He has won the battle over the world. The world in us is the selfish desires and ambitions we once had. It we used to boast in it. We boast that Jesus has saved us and is making us like Him.

Jesus killed those sinful desires, selfish intentions and motives, and prideful stances you used to take. He has taught you a better way. He has made you part of His family and giving you a greater inheritance. He has given you something better than the world could ever offer.

Action Step: Thank Jesus that He has crucified the world to you. You are a new creature in Him. Make a list of everything Jesus has changed in use so far.

Jesus, through Your death on the Cross, You have given me new life and a new way to live. Thank You for Your sacrifice for me. I can only live out the gratitude I have for what You have done for me.
