October 3 | Genesis 14:19-20
“And he blessed him and said, “Blessed be Abram by God Most High, Possessor of heaven and earth, and blessed be God Most High who has delivered your enemies into your hand.” And Abram gave him a tenth of everything.” (Genesis 14:19–20)
In all my years of ministering in Pentecostal churches I had never received a “Pentecostal handshake.” I didn’t even know people did this. One Sunday morning after preaching a person walked up to me and shook my hand. I felt something strange and realized it was money.
Abraham wasn’t required to give anybody anything. He won a battle against several kings. He was the one who earned the victory. And he gave a tenth of everything he won in the spoils to Melchizedek, the priest of Salem.
Abraham was blessed beyond measure and chose to give out of his generosity. Anytime I have talked about money from the pulpit I’ve got mixed reviews. This should not be. God has been generous to each of us. We should be generous to Him and others.
Abraham gave because God blessed him. God has blessed you in more ways than you can count. From salvation to healing to provision, He has given you so many reasons to be generous and bless Him and others. Don’t be afraid to pour out blessing to the Lord and others. You can bless the Lord with your finances from the tithe to your offerings. But don’t stop at money.
Action Step: Bless the Lord by using your talents to serve Him. Volunteer in your church. Give your time to minister to others. There are so many ways to show your gratitude to Him.
Jesus, I want to bless You in every area of my life. I am so thankful for all You have done for me. Give me a way I can bless You and others around me.
