Believe in God

August 4 | Hebrews 11:3, 6

“By faith we understand that the universe had been created by God’s word so that what is seen had not been made out of what is visible.” (Hebrews 11:3)

“And without faith it is impossible to please him, for the one drawing near to God must believe that he exists and that he is a Rewarder of those who keep seeking him.” (Hebrews 11:6)

Everybody has faith. Even if they say they don’t, they do. When you turn on the light switch you expect the light to turn on. When you sit on a chair you expect you won’t come crashing to the ground. When you turn the key in your car you expect the engine to turn on.

The writer of Hebrews points out that all faith begins with believing in God. We can’t please God without faith. We start at square one, believing in God’s existence. Genesis begins by saying God existed before creation. You can’t keep reading the Bible without believing God exists and He is powerful.

He creates everything we see out of what we don’t see. He made something out of nothing. And He did it with His voice. When He spoke, things happened. And it’s the same way today.

You must also have faith that God rewards those who seek Him. If we didn’t believe that there would be no reason to reach out and draw close to God. And yet there are great rewards and benefits to knowing God. When you seek Him, you will find Him. God wants to know you, and He wants you to know Him.

Action Steps: Grow deeper in your relationship with God. Explore the benefits of knowing Him. When you draw near to God, He will draw near to you.

Heavenly Father, I want to know You more deeply. I believe in You and I believe in Your power. Speak Your blessings into my life. Reveal Yourself to me. Show me Your glory. Let me bask in Your presence.
