As Unto the Lord

December 13 | Ephesians 6:6-7

“not with eye-service as people-pleasers but as slaves of Christ doing God’s will from the heart with a goodwill, serving as to the Lord and not to people” (Ephesians 6:6–7)

Every time I mention giving in a sermon I know every mind goes to money. But that’s not the only giving we do. We render service to the Lord as His servants. We give of our time, talents, resources, and ourselves.

Talking about giving only from a financial point of view limits our service to the Lord. He has given us so much more than money. He offered Himself. He taught us about His expectations. When we offer ourselves, our service, talents, time, and other resources to the Lord, what should be our attitude?

When other people need your help, your wisdom, your time, your presence, your resources, or anything else, what is your heart? What is your attitude? Some of us have a tendency to mumble and groan about helping others. We don’t have time for that.

Or maybe you do it to please other people or to look good in their eyes. You play it off as not a big deal so you look good. They know they are imposing and you want them to apologize for it but then tell them it’s okay. That is lipservice and eyeservice. The Lord knows your heart.

The Bible calls you to serve others as though you are serving Jesus. Would you ever play these mind games and tricks with Jesus? Have a good and godly heart, serving others with a good will. You serve Jesus when you serve others.

Action Step: Check your heart and motivation for serving others. Serve them as you serve Christ.

Jesus, make my heart pure in serving others. Check my motivations and intentions. May they be pure before You. Give me a heart of service, a willingness to serve others and glorify You in the process.
