According to God’s Riches

December 9 | Philippians 4:19

“And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:19, ESV)

So do you give out of the gross or net of your income? Does God demand exactly 10% of your funds? Or does he expect more? What about missions and “offerings”? You want to get every “legal” detail out of the way. Can you give from a credit card?

I’ve heard every one of these questions over and over in my ministry. I don’t even have to be preaching on giving. But about credit cards, don’t give what you don’t have.

Why are we so concerned about “legal” accountability? God’s not after your money. He owns everything. He doesn’t command you to give for His benefit. This is for you to learn to trust Him to provide every need you have. It’s for you to learn how to be generous like Him.

When you trust God to supply all your needs you don’t have to worry about how much to give. Don’t think of it as giving back to the Lord. Think of it as giving some of His blessing entrusted to you to Him to further His Kingdom.

When I was in Bible College I casually told one of my friends after grabbing an offering envelope, “I’m going to give God some of His money back.” He replied, “I’ve never heard it put that way but that’s exactly what we’re doing?” When you don’t think of it as yours, it’s easier to give it away.

Action Step: How generous can you be with God’s blessings? You can’t out give God. I dare you. Try, and see what happens.

Jesus, thank You for providing for my every need. You provide before I know I have a need. Teach me to be generous with Your blessings. Give me a giving heart.
