Abide in Jesus’ Love

“Just as the father loved Me, so I loved you; abide in My love. If you would keep My commands you will abide in My love, just as I have kept by Father’s commands and keep abiding in His love. These things I have spoken to you that My joy may be in you and your joy may be full.” (John 15:9–11)

Everyone wants to be loved. There’s nothing like that feeling you get when you know someone cares about you. We try to quantify love, as if love can be measured. Perhaps in some cases it can.

But you have been invited to the greatest love you will ever know. Jesus welcomes you to know the love He has shared with God the Father. Imagine what it was like before creation began. The Father, Son, and Holy Spirit in eternal, divine relationship.

And now you can be part of that kind of love. But there’s one requirement. You must continue to abide in Jesus’s love. You must stay in His love. Don’t move away from Him. And you abide when you obey.

Keeping Jesus’s commandments is how we show Him our love. His love caused Him to act on your behalf. He went to the cross for you. Now He calls you to love Him through obedience. It sounds easy, but the challenge to stay in Jesus’s love brings a lifetime of adventure.

Action Step: Obey Jesus’s commands. The Bible presents principles and commands to make us holy. Remain in His love through your obedience. What command or principle of the Bible haven’t you been following? Today’s a good day to start.

Jesus, thank You for Your invitation to abide in Your love. I want to obey You and everything You say. May Your Holy Spirit guide me into holiness so I can be like You. Conform me to Your image so I can be with You forever.
