November 17 | Proverbs 18:22
“He who finds a wife finds a good thing and obtains favor from the Lord.” (Proverbs 18:22)
We’re always looking for the best things in life. I don’t know anyone who wakes up in the morning and wants to have a miserable day. How happy we are when we find just what we’re looking for, that good thing.
Men and women have been using this proverb to point out how lucky a guy is if he finds a wife, or how blessed such a man is. But the Proverbs aren’t always meant to be an eternal truth. A man who finds a wife who treats him terribly or hates him does not find a good thing.
The favor that comes from the Lord is for the man who finds a godly wife. But this isn’t just for men. Solomon was writing to his son. But if you were writing to his daughter it would have said the same thing, “She who finds a husband finds a good thing…”
When you find a godly husband or wife you will be overly blessed. God’s favor will rest upon you as you seek to fulfill each other’s needs. In fact, in this kind of relationship “a good thing” is an understatement.
So seek a godly husband or wife. And when you find that person cling to them. They will be everything you need and you will be everything they need.
Action Step: Find the godly counterpart God has for you. Love, cherish, and respect that person because God has given them to you as a treasure.
Lord Jesus, help me find the person You have for me. I know you will bless me beyond measure and Your favor will rest upon our union together.
