November 14 | Genesis 1:27-28
“So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. And God blessed them. And God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it, and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”” (Genesis 1:27–28, ESV)
I have seen some strong marriages, loving and caring couples who have grown together over the years. This is probably the vision everyone has when they get married. But if you don’t work at your marriage, learning to live with and love your spouse that vision becomes a dream that never develops.
When the Bible describes God’s institution of marriage it does so with poetry. Humans were created in God’s image, and God’s image includes the community of man and woman. His image includes the union of a man and a woman.
Better than that, God blessed this union. He makes it fruitful as husband and wife grow together. They multiply not just the family but their love, kindness toward one another, the projects they share, and their impact on the world.
The wife is an ally with the husband. The husband looks to her counsel. Your union and companionship with your spouse shows the image of God and glorifies Him. God sets you up for success. And you will have success as long as you make Him the center of your marriage.
Action Step: Glorify God through your intimate union with your spouse. Learn to love, forgive, communicate, and take on the world together. You never stop growing closer in relationship.
Heavenly Father, thank you for my spouse. I am so grateful for this gift You have given me. Help me to build a lasting relationship, to see my spouse through Your eyes. Keep me faithful, kind, and loving.
